Perur - Temple ...


Perur temple is one of the famous Shiva temples in Kongu area. It is belived that Karikaal cholan buit the temple around 500 CE, (Some one can write separately on the contribution of chola kings to our temples). There are evidences found inside the temple, that Chera kings made significant contributions in 13th century CE. Later this temple was taken care by Hoysala and Vijayanagar Kings, it was during this time, lot of people with Kannada and Telugu orgin settled down in and around Coimbatore area.

Perur is considered as equal to Kasi where they do some pariharams. people who do not afford to go to Kasi can perform the same here in Perur. also some time back i came to know that ther is a Shiva temple in a village near Saravanam Patti (it is a bit inside from the main road). The speciality of this temple is that the Shiva idol is built of sand and it is believed that Lord Ravana and also Yama prayed this Shiva for more powers. there is no abishegham and all for the lord in this temple except for freshly crushed Sandanam (sandal). Just felt like sharing this with you.
